Not very well!

Big, droopy eyes and the sweetest face!  But she's not very well!  Stacey spent the best part of Saturday night rubbing her and loving her (much to Schatzie's horror -she was so jealous!).  Holly was not doing well, despite the fact that she had eaten up her dinner and had a lot of water to drink.  There was some of that spark missing!  She was listless and didn't even bat an eye-lid when a helicopter flew over - that was very strange!  Schatzie actaully barked and called her - she lifted her head, and went back to sleep!

Monday meant a visit to the vet.  I must admit, I was nervous as to the outcome.  I really thought there was something wrong with her heart.  Stacey and P say she was ever so sweet!  She didn't flinch when she got her injections, but didn't like having blood taken from her foot!

Dr Hector says she is in fabulous condition for an 11 year old border Collie - this is classed as old!  Her ribs are in perfect position, which allowed him to examine her kidneys and liver.  All feel great.  He did discover that she has a very high sugar count and has diagnosed DIABETES!  Have you ever?  She is spending the day with him today, so that he can take blood every couple of hours, but it looks as though she will have to have an insulin injection twice a day!  We aren't to change her food (she gets ProPack Senior) and we are not to change our routine of feeding!  NO treats! Just lots of love and she could go on for quite a long time!  She also has a touch of rheumatism!

Our poor old girl!  I still think of her as being a puppy!

Are you giving the shots? I have mixed feelings about prolonging a pet's life when they are old. I'm not sure how I would fee in your situation. On the one hand, the dog is basically healthy and only in the winter of its life. On the other hand, is the quality of that life good. It is hard to say goodbye. I know you will do what is best for the pet.
You asked about Thanksgiving. It is November 26 this year. I believe it is always the last Thursday in the month of November.
Is the bird a pet? I can't spell the type.
Have a good day.

I know all too well the love we have for our pets and how hard it is to watch them age! They are like members of our families, and of course, I understand you doing whatever you would do if they were human to make them feel better:-) Praying that she feels better soon and that you all get much more needed time with her!

I know its not funny, but I am imagining you guys running after her with the needle in hand to try and give her a shot. Hope the tests doesn't look too bad today.

we are no prolonging her life, simply preventing her from becoming extremely sick without getting the shots! The vet said she is top condition for a dog her age and if he felt we were prolonging her life he would of given us the choice!
