I have always wanted a Royal Albert tea set. My grandmother used to have one, and it was stolen (along with a lot of other valuables). I was devastated, but, these things happen and I got over it!

Royal Albert is a brand that was inspired by the English country garden and the national flower, the rose!
Philip used to work for a franchise company whose stores bought and sold used items. He was on a store visit one day, when a little old lady came in carrying a large Photostat paper box. She asked P if he would be interested in buying her old tea set as she needed the money. He opened up the box and carefully unwrapped an item – it was a Royal Albert, Dimity Rose tea cup! In fact the box contained a 6 piece tea set, cake plate, side plates, sugar bowl and milk jug! Everything except the tea pot! He knew how delighted I would be, made her an offer and bought it!

When we were in London, we visited Harrods and looked for the matching tea pot. We weren’t able to find one, but were told that we could have it made (at a price mind you!) We weren’t in a hurry, so Philip asked a friend whether he would keep an eye open, and if he ever saw one, to buy it for us. A couple of months later we received a call to say that our tea pot was in Johannesburg – he had found it and sent it down with someone he knew who was an air hostess!
How delighted I was to have the FULL set!
Some months later, we were walking around an old antique shop and THERE IT WAS – a full, Dimity Rose tea for two!
What more could a girl ask for? My romantic, exuberant, beautiful, feminine, floral set is complete!

Really something to be proud of. Every week I read your Friday Show and Tell post and think I should start doing it as well. I just never come around to it. I should make an effort and post it on my Personal (B)log Supplimental. I will, I will, I will... Hopefully I don't forget next week. Or maybe tonight.

So pretty. Isn't it funny how the whole set came together!

p.s.You're so sweet. I did indeed give Ellis the ((HUG)) you sent her this morning. Thanks! Later on this afternoon, I overheard her and Mark talking about the globe and that it needed to be returned to Caroline's room upstairs. But before it went she preceded to show him where we live, which he praised her for, and then she took her finger and drew a long line around to South Africa. She looked up at him and said "This is where Mommy's friend, Miss Janet, lives. In South Africa. The pink one. See how far away she is?" I thought it was so cute. Little did I know that she would really remember EXACTLY where you were!

Have a great weekend!

I love your beautiful tea service -just lovely!

This is my first visit to your blog and I was surprised to see that you live in South Africa. I have a very dear friend in Cape Town. We met online from a pen pal site and have written daily for 11 years! She's become a true friend and she plans to visit me in 2010. I enjoyed my visit here and will be back.

I just love Royal Albert! And particularly Dimity Rose. My daugher has a full teaset which she bought in Bloem. Do you know Uncle Tim's just outside Benoni? It is my favourite place for porcelein shopping. I take the airport road from Pretoria, the Benoni turnoff and through the plots (Bredell, I think the area is called). On the left hand side of the road just before you get to Benoni is this little cluster of special shops on the site of an old farm. Try it!

How beautiful and elegant! It conjures up pictures of ladies in long gowns drinking tea in a sunny English garden - like the lovely old English garden watercolours.
