SRC Team Building Exercise.

What an interesting day we had on Saturday! As you know, Stacey is on the Damelin Student Council and on Saturday the Gauteng SRC organised a team building for Students from all the institutions. University of Johannesburg, Wits, Monash, Damelin, Tswane University of Technology (to name a few) were all represented by their councils. The sports event, which was held at the Wits sports fields, was attended by about 250 students. It was supposed to start at 9. Philip took her through as I had an appointment, and I went through at 10h30. Of course she arrived and there were no kids from Damelin. I must also tell you that she was only 1 of 2 white students - there was a white boy from Monash. The rest of the students were all black. We saw no Indians, and no coloureds either. I found that interesting. To cut a long story short, they only started at 11 as most of the kids were two hours late - proper Africa time! I cannot understand how this is acceptable, and yet no-one really seems to mind!

We were not very happy with the whole situation and were glad that Philip waited with her until I came, and of course I stayed until the end. At the end of the day, it turned out to be great fun and Stacey really enjoyed it. In the morning, she was ready to resign from the council, but by the time her colleagues arrived and the games got under way, she had a ball and has decided to continue! It was amazing how a negative start had such a positive finish!

Although the winter sun is quite weak, being on a sports field with no shade, it became very hot, and she got quite sunburnt. Couldn't believe it was a winter's day!
