YAP's!

Stacey and Julia, a YAP student from Germany. We had her brother Daag visit us last year!

It's so hard to believe that a whole year has passed since the last group of YAP's (Young Ambassadors Programme) were in South Africa. The idea is for young people from other countries to come across and experience the culture and life of South African people and vice versa - for our children to go across to Europe and experience the same. We welcomed 6 youngsters to Johannesburg on Saturday morning - one young lady left her passport in the photostat machine, so missed her plane! She only arrived on Sunday night!

What a busy day they had. Philip took them to the Apartheid Musuem - the idea was that they got to learn the harsh part of our history first and the rest of the time is to enjoy!! After they had finished that, they went into Newtown, to the House of Beers and went on a tour of the SA Brewery musuem. That turned out to be a huge hit - the kids were very impressed with that. On Saturday, we had a welcoming function at our house. Thank Goodness for Stacey - she helped me so much. We made Spinach Salad, Strawberry and Wild Rocket salad, baked potatoes, Mielie Meel bake (with mushrooms and sweetcorn) and a variety of fresh bread. Philip "braaied" ribs, boerewors and sirloin. For dessert, Stacey made a "Melk Tert", I baked a Malva Pudding with custard and Ann Peaceful sent two STUNNING chocolate cakes. I don't believe these kids could believe how much food there was! Hahahaha!

It was just too funny for words! When they got home from the SAB Tour, 4 of them decided that they were going to go for a swim! They put on their costumes and DIVED into our ice-cold swimming pool! The screams and looks on their faces was hysterical. They jumped out quicker than they got in, but they had fun!
The Flower girls!

On Sunday, we took them to Stonehaven on the Vaal! What a stunning place! We had a lovely lunch there and then went on a boat cruise (NOT CATAMARAN!!) along the Vaal. How very pretty it was with the green weeping willows dipping their fronds into the water. Took some lovely photo's but STILL don't know how to put them onto my Blog! After the cruise, we took the YAP's to the Vereeniging 41 Club where they were taken on a game drive. I think they had a lovely time and are now touring the Free State!!

Maybe I can send Stacey next year - 21st Birthday present?? I'll think about it!
