Slowing Down!

There was a time when our social life was so busy; we just didn't seem to stop. Always something on the go somewhere – a dinner party here, a luncheon there! Make a salad for this braai (BBQ) and please think of something original, like biltong and strawberries, not your normal old Greek! Tickets to a concert, or a charity function. Birthday parties, Rugby parties and any old excuse parties.

Suddenly I don't feel like all this action. I am quite happy just to stay at home with my feet up! Read a magazine or work on my laptop. Just sit around and watch something arbitory on telly. Have a cup of coffee and dunk a rusk. P still enjoys the rushing around – I don't know where he gets his energy from! I like to think I'm just tired from a busy time at work, but if the truth was known it's probably a sign of the age-old times! UGH! Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy a good party and I love a glass of wine with my friends, but honestly, it's enough already!

Late nights catch me in the morning. The alarm goes off and bleary eyed I press the snooze button. Just 5 more minutes, until eventually I have to jump up and make a dash for the shower, pushing myself to get done as quickly as I can so that I don't run too late. I can't wait for the day to end so that I can get home and have an early night. And it then it starts all over again – mac 'n cheese with friends, pizza night on Tuesdays, drinks on Friday, rugby on Saturday – oh boy! No peace for the wicked. Guess I need a good tonic and a Red Bull – maybe that's what it is – I need wings!

We were the same way years ago, and now that we made up our minds to do 'for us' instead of everyone else, we are enjoying the golden years with peace and tranquil lifestyle and I don't think I'd trade it for a million bucks either.

But, hey....I'm game for a BBQ!!! I'll be there.

I am a complete home body. I think it comes from working all the time and never being home - now I am so happy not to have to be in that rat race.
