Favourite things ...

New seasons have their own "specialness" - each unique, each exciting and new! We all have our favourite season, and mine are quite simple to identify - the inbetween seasons, spring and autumn. It's not too hot and it's not too cold! The beauty of autumn colours and the sound of leaves crushing beneath your feet, cinnamon buns baking in the oven, and bright orange pumpkins. The days become shorter and cooler as we prepare for a long, cold winter. And then you have spring! Along with warmer days come spring showers. That giant paintbrush touches up the colours, turning dusty dull greens into bright, fresh ones, flowers budding and blossoms weigh heavily on the boughs, bringing promise of plump fruit in the summmer. Energy of a different kind, spring cleaning and polishing - oh yes, spring does seem to brush out the cobwebs. Two of my favourite parts of spring have to be bright orange clivias. How I wish they would bloom throughout the summer, but they don't. They keep their special orange blooms for spring time, and once they've died down in the summer, we have to be content with their dark, green lives filling up dusty gaps. And if you're lucky, next year, there'll be babies ready for transplanting and so your beds fill up until eventually you have a sea of orange - only blooming, once a year, in spring! Of course my other favourite is the Bankshire Rose. Also only blooms in spring time and then becomes an untidy, shambles of leaves and branches, green no less, but no pretty flowers. Both bring childhood memories of our garden while growing up. A garden haven with plenty of place to play and hide. Bankshire Roses in yellow and cream, with branches falling, so full of blooms, and Clivias, peeping out from underneath the hedges - oh yes! I love spring and hope it behaves itself this year, so that we can have a hot, wet summer!

I LOVE the reference to the giant paint brush giving us color in our world.

I hope you have a better summer than the UK did!

Love Spring too !! Plays havoc with my eyes (all the pollen especially when it's windy!) but apart from all the blossoms, there's a freshness to the colours around us

Our leaves are in full glory right now - it is Thanksgiving here in Canada:) Though, it is quite chilly - only 5C this morning, and it is snowing in the north...already. Yikes, I am not ready for winter. Doesn't a year fly by?
