Signs of Spring!

We've had a bitterley cold week-end!  The wind blew icy gales yesterday, reminding us that it's still winter and there's plenty of snow on the Drakensberg. Tonight, however, I came home to find our garden covered in  a pale pink hue - sky was clear and there was not a breath of wind, although the air is still chilly. I looked up into the sky and was reminded of a little verse my Grandma used to say ...

...Pink sky at night, shepherd's delight!

While the August winds are a good sign, indicative of good summer rains, and an ideal Highveld weather pattern, the pinkness all around gave a warm, cozy feeling of a hot, wet summer!

Most of the trees are still brown and bare, spring is creeping on us - I'm sure it is - is that the sweet smell of Jasmine - faint, but there?

So it is! Our hedges of full of pale, pink buds and that familiar old smell - it is time for warmer weather.  Looking forward to green shoots, and pretty buds! Spring is sending us hints that she is not far away - whoo hoo!

Ohhhhhhhhhh, {{{sigh}}}, Winter and a cold blast of temperatures/wind sounds awfully good about right now.

Love the photos. That wintry sky looks heavenly. The muted colors...well captured.

I am so over winter. Usually I don't really mind the cold but this year we have had so much rain it stopped being funny about a month ago. So far we've had the second wettest winter on record and there are still 3 weeks to go. Eish!

There is a hint of autumn in our air. I hear the crickets chirping all the time now and the days are getting shorter. The seasons are changing! School starts three weeks tomorrow - summer break is just about over.
