We went to a little pub just outside Johannesburg for lunch not long after Christmas. It was BLAZING hot and I wasn't having a good time! One of those days when the sweat pours off your forehead, there isn't a whisper of a breeze and nothing you do, cools you down. We were sitting under a huge oak tree - I tried everything from Gingerbeer to water, but I couldn't quench my thirst! Eventually we went home, because at least there I could cool off in the pool! We payed our bill and wandered off towards the car - then P disappeared! Gone I tell you! I was standing at the car (now in the hot sun, no more oak tree shade) and he just didn't come! I decided to go and look for him! Guess what he'd found ...
... a new bird feeder! Made simply from an old cooldrink bottle with plastic tubes for the birds to perch and feed! He bought one and they LOVE it - we're going through bags of seed now as it gets filled very two or three days! It's quite funny to see the Loeries come and eat the apples (they don't like the seed) and the little birds jabber away at them, as if to say "Don't come too close to our spot!"

how wonderful - some folk just have the ability to turn 'rubbish' into good use.
I've had to stop feeding our birds because a sparrow hawk started visiting our garden and did manage to catch one of the little darlings!! but you have reminded me to start again because I do miss watching them feed.
Something like that is a great way to attract birds to the garden. I should really look into getting one for our back yard. All we have are pigeons.

That's a great feeder. I agree about the seed. I filled mine yesterday and it is half gone already but I get so much pleasure watching them that I don't mind. I love it when I identify a new one at the feeder like the yellow rumped warbler in Monday's post. We've had 5 different kinds of woodpeckers at the feeder. Some I had never seen close up before.
I like the apple holder. Never saw one like it.
