Upperhand? Or not?

I don't like people who have nothing nice to say to anyone, but who complain morning, noon and night! Life is too short to listen and entertain a bad attitude. I wonder if it makes someone with an inferiority complex feel better to belittle someone else? And the same people seem to do it all the time.

What do you do? Ignore it and let them feel they have the upperhand? Or retaliate and give them the reaction they hope to get? Feels like a lose, lose situation to me! I guess sometimes things are best left unsaid but it damn frustrating!

Sorry, my turn to vent!

Oh!  And just to add a cherry on top - my domestic worker has just called!  She has broken the iron!  Can I tell you I bought a brand, new one two months ago?  About the 3rd this year?  What do you think she does with them??

Depends who you're talking about... sometimes people's egos don't let them listen anyway and you're just wasting your breath

I hear you!

I always say 'If you haven't got anything nice to say then don't say anything at all' - life is far too short for pessimism!

I could not have said it any better myself! Why is it that people get such a kick out of being so nasty and making others so miserable? I've heard lots of reasons but it all sounds like alot of hot air. Keep your pessimism to yourself is what I say.

And the lady who irons for me has broken my iron too. Knocked it right off the board and onto the floor. One of the knobs came right off. Another time the entire push button system just fell all apart. And it wasn't a cheap iron to begin with!

There is somebody at work here (and thats all I can say) who never has anything nice to say about anybody. They would rather put you down in front of other people. I know the feeling.

As for the iron mystery...

This is so true.

Am not sure if I am one of those but sure hope if I was someone would put me in my pretty place.

I was just complaining about having to do my own housework in this country...LOL..and have a basket of ironing calling my name...but the computer calls my name as well...

I agree that negative people are not a joy to be around. Unfortunately, when they are family, we do need to spend some time with them. Have you ever noticed, these ones seem to be ill all the time with one thing or another? As to the iron, I'm not sure you can break one unless you drop it on a concrete floor. I've been known to let on or two fall off the ironing board but it didn't break them.
I like that you called her you "domestic". I've never known exactly what to call mine: housekeeper(she's not there all the time) or maid?

I've had the same iron since my 1st year of college! And that's after using it to make grilled cheese sandwiches...which comes in really handy in the dorm room. I can't even imagine what she's doing with them!
