Show & Tell Friday!

Welcome to “Show and Tell Friday!” Do you have something special to share with us? It could be a trinket from grade school, a piece of jewelry, or a treasured collection. Look around your closet if you have to share! Share photos and the story that goes with your special item. I am a lover of fine China! One of my favorites is that of Royal Copenhagen! Philip and I were on holiday in Denmark and I went to visit the Rosenborg Palace which houses the Danish Crown jewels. While we were wandering through the magnificent old building, we were shown an amazing collection of white porcelain with three waved lines – this became their trademark in 1775. The blue fluted pattern is still hand painted today. I fell in love with the fine workmanship and absolute beauty of it!

When we left, we had some time to spare at the airport. We found a little shop at Duty Free selling Royal Copenhagen. I wandered around looking at the exquisite pieces, desparately wanting to buy something - no matter how small! I had just about given up when my eye spotted this little sugar bowl - in their signature blue and white with a little bit of gold!

I literally counted my crowns and had JUST enough to buy it! I packed it so carefully and treasured it all the way back to South Africa. I often use it, never as a sugar bowl, but when we have a dinner party I fill it with tiny mints!

When Philip went to Finland 2 years ago, he stopped off in Copenhagen to visit some good friends of ours. Remembering how much I loved the porcelain, he bought me this ….

Royal Copenhagen egg - it is so fragile, and lies in a box of straw! (Not the nicest photograph). Right, now that I have my own Danish treasures ... what about some crown jewels?

Those are lovely! Such a delicate egg too! When Elaine came home from Sweden she brought me a gift from a trip she and her friends did to Denmark - a cute little blue and white windmill with two figures. I don't think it was particularly expensive (she was a student!) but it's very sweet and is a treasure. Must photograph it to 'show and tell'. She also brought back the cutest glass bird from Prague ..... mmmm another post in the making here!
Have a good weekend!

Two very interesting pieces. I specially like the egg. I have some old china from my grandmother. Maybe I should do some research and see where the come from.
