I've been Tagged!

My new “blogging” friend, Pam, who lives in Canada, has tagged me! It’s a pet meme and I hope my memory serves me correctly …

1. What is the first pet you remember?
It would have to be a Boxer – her name was “Cutter”. I remember my father naming her after the first race horse that he owned. She was a beautiful dog, with a strong, square face! She got out of the garden one day and I remember driving up and down the suburb with father, looking for her. We never found her – I wonder what happened to her?

2. How many different kinds of pets have you owned?
We’ve had many. From the smallest of white mice (not me, my brother!) to the biggest racehorse (my father). We lived on a small farm so there were all sorts running around. We have never owned cats though!

3. What was your strangest pet?
Has to be out pet guinea fowl, called Vinegar! We originally had two, called Salt and Pepper. Pepper died and we were left with Salt. We had to get her a little friend and that’s when Vinegar joined our family! Salt has since disappeared (must have flow away!) and now we’re left with Vinegar!

4. What’s your dream pet?

I don’t really have a dream pet! I guess one that sheds no hair – it tickles my nose!! (By the way Pam, we have a long-haired Dachshund at home, called Schatzie – she is a real madam!)

5. What is your nightmare pet?
Hmmm! Tough one! Probably cats, because they give me asthma. I had a very bad experience in Poland one time. We stayed with someone who had cats and I had forgotten my asthma pump at home … I thought I was going to die that night … it was scary!

6. Your best / funniest pet story!
I think our best pet story must be of the friendship between our border collie, Holly and the bird, Vinegar. They are inseparable. The dogs sleep in our garage at night and the bird sleeps on the fountain outside our front door. In the morning, when the bird wakes up, if she sees that Holly is still “in bed” she throws back her head and SCREAMS – kwaaaaaaaaa, kwara, kwara, kwara! Until someone gets up and lets Holly out – most annoying on a Saturday morning, when its your only time for a little sleep in!
Ha!

7. Tell us your saddest / worst pet story,
My saddest story would be of our Hutch. He was a German Shepherd and grew up on the farm with us. He loved the horsed and would follow my mum all over the house. One evening, he heard a noise outside and ran out to investigate. It was a huge snake that had entangled itself in the wire fence. Hutch ran straight into the fence and cut himself quite badly. We took him to the vet for stitches, and he never came right after that. Eventually he died and the vet told us that he had given him too much anaesthetic because of his size. It was VERY sad.

8. Did you ever have a scary animal experience?
Wow Pam! I have nothing as exciting as a brown bear walk across our garden! THAT is scary! I do remember being chased by an elephant in the Kruger Park – that was pretty scary!

9. My favorite pet?
I guess it has to be Holly, our border collie! She has the kindest nature and is getting old now! Like an old lady, she likes to sit in the sun and loves a cuddle and enjoys the odd ice-lolly!

10. What did you really want to tell us about pets that didn’t fit into the other questions?
Being very allergic to most animals, I have to say that although we always grew up in house with pets, I sort of kept my distance. Of course I married a man who is crazy about dogs, and so is Stacey!

I am tagging the following people:

Have fun!

Other than our lovebird we don't do pets. It is something we decided very early on and it is all about time and what to do with it when we want to go away.

I LOVE the names you gave your guineafowl...so clever!!

When we first arrived in Uganda I fell in love with all the goats that were roaming the streets so I wanted a little baby goat but fortunately my husband talked me out of it!!!
