Quiet Evenings!

I just love quiet evenings!

Although Stacey is in Bloemfontein, Philip and I are not alone. We have Katelyn staying with us during the week. Her mum had a very big back op and Kate needs a lift to work everyday. It makes sense for her to stay with us. She only comes in after 8pm as she first goes to the hospital to visit her mother.

However, before I lose my train of thought – got home from work last night, prepared the dinner (lamb chops marinated in lemon, olive oil, garlic and rosemary with creamy mashed potatoes and mixed veggies), set the table and went to sit outside with my book while I waited for P to come home. He was home early. He lit a fire (lamb chops are best done on a bbq!) and came out with his newspaper! We sat under the trees in silence, me with my book, him with The Times! It was quiet, peaceful and good!

Then we started talking about Christmas and what we’re going to do, about our domestic workers wedding, about the girls - just things in general. Haven’t had a talk like that for a long time. In fact, at one point it felt odd --- does that make sense? Made me think about how we’re always so consumed by external things that we sometimes forget what its like to just sit and talk. About anything. I told him all about my blogging and stories about people I have “met”! It was a good evening! No rushing, no stressing!

I guess it’s called “connecting” and we don’t do enough of it in this rat race city we live in!
