Girls night again!

Besides the fact that it is pouring with rain and I sat in the traffic for ages this morning (the usual, traffic lights out of order!) I am feeling a little tired and VERY glad that it's Friday!  I had Book Club last night, and just yesterday morning, I was telling Jeanette that I am tired and really don't feel like it!  Of course, once I got there and met up with my friends, the wine started flowing and away we were!  I do love Book Club and we're a good group of girls.  It got me thinking ... how does your book club work?

There are 10 of us.  Each month, someone gets a chance to host the evening and supplies the dinner and wine.  We each contribute R150 - R50 goes to the hostess for the next month to buy books of her choice, and R100 goes into the "stokvel" and each month one member wins the kitty! In November, we still put in our extra R100 but that goes towards our evening out in December.  We don't really discuss the books we have read,  just a quick "very good", "couldn't put that down" or "didn't enjoy!" and then we chat, have dinner and just enjoy being a bunch of girls together. The books that one buys as the hostess belong to that person and when our libary becomes too big, or someone leaves, we take the books with our names in them.  It's a great way of building up one's personal collection as you are forced to spend R500 on books - something I never did before joining!  Midnight is cut-off time first Thursday of every month and we have to live within 5k's of each other!  Those are the rules and they have worked for 5 years!  Our core group are still together and we have two new members - we keep the numbers at 10!

Next month is our Christmas Dinner.  We are going to "Cattle Baron" in Little Falls for dinner and have to take a gift - "Something Nice!" - we drew names so know who we have to buy for!

A book is the only place in which you can examine a fragile thought without breaking it, or explore an explosive idea without fear it will go off in your face.  It is one of the few havens reamining where a man's mind can get both provocaton and privacy ~ Edward P Morgan

Glad you enjoyed it after all!
Ours has petered out a bit, so it's not very organised at all anymore.
